Μιλώντας για τη μουσική του Puccini ο Glenn Gould, “μη παραλείποντας να δώσει ένα ακόμα δείγμα εκκεντρικότητας”, δήλωνε ότι τον κάνει να στριφογυρίζει ανήσυχος στο κάθισμά του. Αντίθετα, για τον σημερινό φιλοξενούμενό μας έχει υπερθεματίσει, αναφέροντάς τον ως τον πιο αγαπημένο του απ’ όλους τους συνθέτες.
Εκ των επιφανών του 17ου αι., με “ανταγωνιστές” ορόσημα της αγγλικής σχολής όπως ο William Byrd και ο John Bull, o οργανίστας – συνθέτης Orlando Gibbons (1583-1625) κατάφερε να προσφέρει ένα έργο μικρό σχετικά [πέθανε μόλις 42] αλλά αντίστοιχης σπουδαιότητας.
