NEW YEAR’S EVE PODCAST 31/12/2025

🔴 🔴 🔴 We bid farewell to 2025 by traveling musically through time with baroque and jazz: we begin with a song by the greatest of British composers, Henry Purcell (performed by soprano Barbara Bonney and bass Michael George), followed by the harp transcription of Handel’s ‘Harmonious Blacksmith’ (Judy Loman). We then move on to Pat Metheny with a track from his first album with the Unity Band, and André Previn playing a standard from the American Songbook—composed by Allie Wrubel. And we conclude with the magical Ella Fitzgerald on yet another standard—this one composed by Frank Loesser. Happy New Year everyone!

00:00 PURCELL : SEE HOW THE FADING GLORIES OF THE YEAR
02:56 HANDEL : HARMONIOUS BLACKSMITH
07:45 PAT METHENY : NEW YEAR
15:17 ANDRE PREVIN : GONE WITH THE WIND
18:24 ELLA FITZGERALD : WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN NEW YEAR’S EVE

When the bells all ring and the horns all blow
And the couples we know are fondly kissing
Will I be with you or will I be among the missing?
Maybe it’s much too early in the game
Ah, but I thought I’d ask you just the same
What are you doing New Year’s, New Year’s eve?
Wonder whose arms will hold you good and tight
When it’s exactly twelve o’clock that night
Welcoming in the New Year, New Year’s Eve?
Maybe I’m crazy to suppose
I’d ever be the one you chose
Out of the thousand invitations you received
Ah, but in case I stand one little chance
Here comes the jackpot question in advance
What are you doing New Year’s, New Year’s Eve?
Ah, but in case I stand one little chance
Here comes the jackpot question in advance
What are you doing New Year’s, New Year’s Eve?
Oh, what are you doing New Year’s, New Year’s Eve?

Well, I don’t like the cliche (or the song, for that matter😎) but …she’s “Simply The Best” – always was and always will be!
Thank you Liz, and a Happy New Year to you and your loved ones also!
