The ballet suite “Carnaval” is a wonderful example of a young Mikis Theodorakis’ skills in the field of classical music, combined with the essential “Greek elements”.
It was premiered in 1953 choreographed by Rallou Manou. It was based on drafts that the composer made in 1947 [while in exile for political reasons]. We hear parts of the work.

Love this. Am I understanding correctly? This is a Greek composer.
This is as brilliant as most. Thank you for the enjoyment of music.
Yes, he is. This is one of his early works, unfortunately most of his later “classical” stuff didn’t live up to the promise. A great songwriter, though.
He wrote popular music, as well?
Yes, some of the greatest songs of the last 6 decades.
OMG! Have you posted any?
Nope. I’m not in the mood for Greek stuff at the moment. It’ ll happen sooner or later, God willing.
Sounds fab!
I’m half Irish, by descent. So, Happy St. Paddy’s!
OH! Did you see Marina in the Cubist gown I drew?
[I just discovered that, for some reason, the following answer didn’ t show the moment I posted it, so here I go again:]
I swear a recognized her before reading the name!
Happy St. Paddy’s – I posted a Marianne Faithful’s song for the occasion – hope you like it!
