MICHAEL WOLLNY TRIO : GHOSTS [2022]

German jazz pianist and composer
Michael Wollny is one of my most ”intimate” European musicians, either solo, or on his various collaborations, or with [Em] – the group with which he first became known – or of course with the Michael Wollny Trio.
We hear two tracks from
Ghosts, the excellent album they released this year – we would listen to them anyway, with or without the tribute.
Tim Lefebvre is on bass, Eric Schaefer on drums.

Always great to hear new music.
I like jazz trios…. and quartets. I don’t know many, but Oscar Peterson Quartet is one I adore.

Oscar Peterson was god! and so were Ray Brown and Ed Thigpen.

Ed Thigpen…I think I know this name from your music offerings! I see he played with Oscar, as did Ray Brown. I should repost this Oscar Peterson Trio mural… Thigpen is not in it, but Ray Brown is. Only 20 people saw it.
https://graffitiluxandmurals.com/2013/03/01/oscar-peterson-trio/ I’d appreciate your advice on a piece of music to include with it!

OP has collaborated with various musicians – it’s just that his Night Train album [with RB and ET] was the first I ever heard from him back in the late ’70s. I don’t instantly recall any album of his recorded with Max Roach on drums. I’ll check it out and write you again tomorrow.

Definitely Resa [as sure as one can be with such a vast discography] : There’s never been an Oscar Peterson Trio with Max Roach on drums.
The graffiti guy must have been mistaken.

            It’s a possibility.
Let me look it up some more. I’ll compare pics of Ed Thickpen w/ the painting.
I’ll also check where I got the info from. It could be that Oscar Peterson played once in Winnipeg, and somehow in that 1 performance Max Roach sat in.
THANK YOU for helping me! I’ll get back to you with what I find out. I’ll need a song anyway!

For some reason I believe you like West Side Story. So the first thing that came to my mind was the O.P. Trio West Side Story album [Ray Brown on bass, Ed Thigpen on drums].
              Here’s two tracks from it
              “Something’s Coming” https://youtu.be/w5XXByRPBrk
              “Maria” https://youtu.be/emU4eR-K_OQ
On the second you can watch them playing live.

I sent you an email about Max Roach & Oscar Peterson.. an article I found, where someone is selling rare recordings. I think you will find it interesting.
