Dick Holler’s all time classic, written for Lincoln, Martin Luther King, John & Robert Kennedy, in two versions: first ever recording by Dion [1968] and the Marvin Gaye cover 2 years later.
Has any body here,
Seen my old friend Abraham,
Can you tell me, where he’s gone.
He freed a lot of people,
But it seems the Good die young
I just looked around,
And he was gone.
Has anybody here,
Seen my old friend John,
Can you tell me where he’s gone.
He freed a lot of people,
But it seems the good die young
I just looked around
And he was gone.
Has any body here seen my old friend Martin,
Can you tell me, where he’s gone
He freed a lot of people,
But it seems the good die young
I just looked around
And he was gone.
Has any body here
Seen my old friend bobby.
Can you tell me
Where he’s gone.
You see he freed a lot of people,
But the good they die young yeah
I just looked around
And he was gone.
Oh I just looked around
And he was gone!

I’ve always loved this song! I know the Dion version, but the MG version may have escaped me.
I think both versions are amazing. The song and its message remain as strong as ever…. 52 years later.
