Σε συνέχεια του αφιερώματος στον John Lawton, ένα ακόμα τραγουδι των Lucifer’s Friend. Έχοντας ξεκινήσει ως κατά βάση, αλλά όχι μόνο, heavy metal μπάντα την ίδια χρονιά με τους Black Sabbath [1970], οι Γερμανοί θα απογειώνονταν, με άλμπουμ όπως τα …Where The Groupies Killed The Blues [1972] και Βanquet [1974] στον έβδομο ουρανό του progressive, μη καταφέρνοντας να αγγίξουν mainstream επιτυχία.
Ακούμε ένα κομμάτι τους από το Where The Groupies Killed The Blues.
Continuing the tribute to John Lawton, here’s another song by Lucifer’s Friend. Having started basically, but not only, as a heavy metal band in the same year as Black Sabbath [1970], the German band would take off, with albums like Where The Groupies Killed The Blues [1972] and Banquet [1974] into the seventh prog-rock heaven, never touching mainstream level success.
One interesting thing, characteristic of the ignorance of various “rock historiographers” is that the great band is rarely mentioned among the forefathers of ’90s progressive metal [Dream Theater, Symphony X etc]
We hear a piece from …Where The Groupies Killed The Blues.
Rose on the vine, there’s a holy man drinking my wine
Hole in the line
Old Sunday morning is raining and shining my way
Rose on the vine, drinking my wine
So good day-
Is your grass so green and do you … like people say?
A dream came by my way
Came falling through my door
Do you love me?
Or are you
Lying in an anarchistic folderol
Hydrogen joint – la, what is the point?
Susan burned her mind out yesterday
Men came down from town took her away
Hey Hey Hey
Hey Hey Hey
Pills in the jar, let them tell you how lucky you are
Leapers for two
Eggs in one basket = Immaculate Contraception
How do you do?
Rose on the vine, drinking my wine
So fug you…
