Sad fact: in reality, [musical] memory had abandoned the master in the final years of his life, as he was bitterly complaining.
It must had been an awful experience for such a vigorous mind.
Haydn is still an underrated composer. People think he is some kind of “poor mans’ Mozart” which couldn’t be further from truth.
Mozart and Haydn had a great friendship and mutual admiration.
