JON ANDERSON : SOLID SPACE / MOON RA (1976)

The storyline is one of those that gave the bad name to the “concept albums” of the ’70s (tribes of a distant world threatened by destruction, wizards, the colonization of a new planet…). But the aura of pantheistic ecstasy – emblematic of
Jon Anderson’s journey with the Yes mothership – is also excitingly present here, on his first solo album.
The ace singer, apart from music and lyrics, is also solely responsible for the recording of
Olias Of Sunhillow, playing a multitude of instruments (keyboards, strings, percussion) himself.

00:00 SOLID SPACE
Hold my life
Cross the path
Course and curl my dreams away
Fast the soul
Make the break
As even as the stars that form the way
RIDER
Turn a mountain
Send them lost
Among the flowers of the young
RIDER
RIDER
RIDER
Hold my life
Cross the path
Course and curl my dreams away
Fast the soul
Make the break
As even as the stars that form the way
RIDER

05:28 MOON RA
Worlds that lie between
Are simply seconds of words we do not mean
Cast a pastel sky
Or simply wonder until the day you die
Eyes have never seen
So pass your future caressing all you’ve been
All you say
All you dreamed
All memory awaken

This is another new introduction I’ve not heard before.
The intro had me in goosebumps ..

I think the artist may well have innerstood the deeper meaning of “Time”, and the Matrix.

    Thank you for sharing x

He certainly did. Not surprisingly, this album written in the middle ’70s, could be easily a product of the ’90s, or the 2020s. It is 100% timeless.
Unfortunately it ‘s not well known even to the fans of Yes, the band Anderson fronted till 2008.
      Thank you very much Sue!

I think many things written back then were meant to be heard today with a new perception of meaning today. ✨️🙂

Of course they were. Musicians of the day were highly educated, seriously thinking individuals. They’d taken the lessons of the sixties and pushed them to the next level. No wonder why this whole progressive movement was beaten by the “experts” (“critics” and “writers”), and later on totally crashed by the artificial, media-made “punk” scene. 😖

Yes the Punk Era was a definite sabotage.. Totally dysfunctional in every sense ..

It’s not one of the man’s best known works. But it has its share of great moments!

Great stuff – I love those 70s Prog Rock type of album covers too. Much more imaginative than covers tend to be now. Works of art!

Agreed! Most interestingly, this album’s concept was inspired by the artwork of some Yes’ albums, made by the legendary Roger Dean.
