John Lennon‘s big moment of the post-Beatles era, and one of the rare, as it should be, times when the word “overwhelming” stubbornly keeps its meaning. A song where the feeling of unspeakable sorrow is given on a major scale, identified with joy. [photo: baby-Lennon and his mother, Julia]
Mother, you had me
But I never had you
I, I wanted you
You didn’t want me
So, I
I just got to tell you
Goodbye
Goodbye
Father, you left me
But I never left you
I needed you
You didn’t need me
So, I
I just got to tell you, mm
Goodbye
Goodbye
Children, don’t do
What I have done
I couldn’t walk
And I tried to run
So, I
I just got to tell you
Goodbye
Goodbye
Mama don’t go
Daddy come home
Mama don’t go
Daddy come home
Mama don’t go
Daddy come home
Mama don’t go
Daddy come home
Mama don’t go
Daddy come home
Mama don’t go
Daddy come home
Mama don’t go
Daddy come home
Mama don’t go
Daddy come home
Mama don’t go
Daddy come home
Mama don’t go
Daddy come home

This was painful to listen to; it felt very raw.
This is one of the 2 songs I ‘ve never listened to without shedding a tear. Here’s the other one : https://oannes.gr/fairport-convention-farewell-farewell-liege-and-lief-1969/
The Fairport Convention song is very moving. I’m surprised that I hadn’t heard of them before.
Sad song. I agree with Liz.
Yes, almost unbearably.
Sad, so, sad…. Not heard this before…. And makes me think of all of those unwanted children..
May we all be Grateful for our Mothers and Fathers… and love our children..
This is the song for my parents.
Daddy was gone from day 2.
Mama was there, but not.
This is my song for them.
John was deeper than the sky.
I’m sorry to hear that Resa. But maybe that played a role in you being such a loving and sensitive person.
John was Godhead. It’s almost unimaginable there was a time where a guy like this was No 1 celebrity planet wise.
Thank you for sharing!
Aww, thank you! It takes one to know one, and Marina is loving and sensitive, too.
I miss John. Maybe “they” killed him. “They” couldn’t stand him! His message had penetrated. It wouldn’t have taken much to persuade a weak mind like Mark David Chapman to do the job.
There is a great possibility of Chapman being a kind of “Manchurian Candidate”!
…Yes!!!
