JAZ COLEMAN : SYMPHONIC LED ZEPPELIN (1996)

’Going To California’.

Kashmir, Symphonic Led Zeppelin was one of Jaz Coleman’s first attempts in the “classical” field, under his newfound, back in the early ’90s, role of conductor – arranger – “classical” composer. The overall result was not exactly triumphant for Killing Joke’s mastermind, nor was the one of his attempts with the music of Stones, Floyd, Doors or Nirvana.
There were exceptions though, such as the track we hear, based on Zeppelin’s
‘Going To California’.

He’s rarely that good in the field of [pseudo-]classical, I must say, although I’m a Killing Joke fan since the early ’80s. And Klaus Tennstedt the conductor calling him “the new Mahler” 🤪 doesn’t help a lot!

That was okay, not spectacular, but okay. I do appreciate what he attempts and it’s always great to learn of another musician. I have been introduced to many here on Oannes. Thank you!
