Handel in one of the sublime peaks of his art. We hear the intro, the Chorus Of Israelites and the amazing martial aria of Judas “Call forth thy pow’rs, my soul”, from the secular oratorio “Judas Maccabaeus” he composed in 1746 at the age of 61.
The libretto is based on historical events.
00:00 Overture 07:56 Mourn, Ye Afflicted Children 13:30 Call Forth Thy Pow’rs, My Soul [Ryland Davies]
Mourn, ye afflicted children, the remains
Of captive Judah, mourn in solemn strains;
Your sanguine hopes of liberty give o’er,
Your hero, friend and father is no more.
Judas Maccabaeus
Call forth thy pow’rs, my soul, and dare
The conflict of unequal war.
Great is the glory of the conqu’ring sword,
That triumphs in sweet liberty restor’d.
Call forth. . . da capo

Pretty great! An interesting thing is happening!
After listening to classical music here, I’m developing favourites.
Not going to say who right now, as I need to get my composers organized, in my mind.
However, 1 thing is clear, Mozart is one of my faves.
