Η μουσική του George Enescu θα ήταν ευρύτερα γνωστή, αν ο συνθέτης, βιολιστής & πιανίστας δεν είχε γεννηθεί στη Ρουμανία, αλλά σε κάποια ισχυρή χώρα της Δύσης. Οι “επιδόσεις του” ως παιδιού θαύματος ήταν ακραίες, όπως και οι διθύραμβοι: έφτασε να χαρακτηριστεί ως “το μεγαλύτερο μουσικό φαινόμενο από την εποχή του Μότσαρτ και μια από τις μεγαλύτερες ιδιοφυίες της σύγχρονης μουσικής” – αυτά, από τον Pablo Casals αυτοπροσώπως.
Η πρώτη παρτιτούρα του GE είχε τίτλο: Romanian Land, και υπότιτλο: “έργο για πιάνο και βιολί του George Enescu, Ρουμάνου συνθέτη, ηλικίας πέντε χρόνων και ενός τετάρτου του χρόνου”.
Η εκπληκτική συνθετική του δραστηριότητα, σταθερά επηρεασμένη από την ρουμανική παράδοση, θα επεκτεινόταν σε χώρους όπως η όπερα, η συμφωνία, η μουσική για πιάνο και η μουσική δωματίου.

The music of George Enescu would have been more widely known , had the composer, violinist and pianist been born in some powerful country of the West, instead of Romania. His “performance” as a wunderkind was extreme, as were the dithyrambs: on an occasion he was described as “the greatest musical phenomenon since Mozart, and one of the greatest geniuses of modern music”, by one Pablo Casals.
GE’s first score was titled: Romanian Land, and subtitled: “piano and violin work by George Enescu, Romanian composer, aged five years and a quarter”.
His astonishing composing activity, consistently influenced by Romanian tradition, would extend to fields such as opera, symphony, piano music and chamber music. We hear the first part of his Octet for double string quartet op. 7 [completed at the age of 19] : Très modéré. Performed by Viotta Ensemble, under the direction of Micha Hamel.
