Το “Watcher Of The Skies” ήταν το highlight των συναυλιών των Genesis της συγκεκριμένης περιόδου [1972-3].
“Watcher Of The Skies” was the highlight of Genesis’ live shows of this particular era [1972-3]. For obvious musical reasons, but also for Peter Gabriel’s spellbinding presence. The video’s relatively poor quality is making me include it as an alternative choice to the mp3 track. The song is monumental anyway.
Watcher of the skies watcher of all
His is a world alone no world is his own,
He whom life can no longer surprise,
Raising his eyes beholds a planet unknown.
Creatures shaped this planet’s soil,
Now their reign has come to an end,
Has life again destroyed life,
Do they play elsewhere, do they know
More than their childhood games?
Maybe the lizard’s shed its tail,
This is the end of man’s long union with Earth.
Judge not this race by empty remains
Do you judge God by his creatures when they are dead?
For now, the lizard’s shed it’s tail
This is the end of man’s long union with Earth.
From life alone to life as one,
Think not your journey’s done
For though your ship be sturdy, no
Mercy has the sea,
Will you survive on the ocean of being?
Come ancient children hear what I say
This is my parting council for you on your way.
Sadly now your thoughts turn to the stars
Where we have gone you know you never can go.
Watcher of the skies watcher of all
This is your fate alone, this fate is your own.

It’s funny. I loved Genesis – Selling England By the Pound but never got into this album…
Was interesting to listen to this tune after alllll these years!
Halo Dale! to my opinion this album is also a masterpiece, like everything these people did through the entire decade [Trespass, Nursery Cryme, Foxtrot, Selling England By The Pound, The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway, A Trick Of The Tail, Wind And Wuthering, And Then There Were Three, The Duke].
Genesis, that’s what I believe, were second only to The Beatles.
Check out another song from the same album if you want

Thanks for sharing!
Oh I agree they produced amazing albums – all of the ones you listed I am very familiar with. Like I said for some strange reason I just didn’t listen to this particular album. And, while I know every Beatles song, I was never in love with them either!
I think Get Em Out By Friday is the only song I really knew from Foxtrot!
You can be very convincing. I like this song.
Never liked, nor disliked Genesis. They were there. Enjoyed songs.
You are growing them on me!
