📀 📀 I’m not closely following the rock scene these days, but there are some new bands that pique my interest. Like Geese from Brooklyn, a strange and captivating blend of Velvet Underground and Television with elements from various directions, from Radiohead to Tom Waits (the voice of singer-songwriter, keyboardist and guitarist Cameron Winter carries an echo of Tom Verlaine, with all that implies). These, along with their sparkling and personal songwriting, samples of which we hear here—three in number—from their recently released album Getting Killed.

00:00 HALF REAL
He may say that our love
He may say that our love
He may say that our love
Was only half real
He may say that real love
He may say that real love
He may say real love
Is a nail in the wall
And that’s how a lot of assholes feel
But that’s not how I feel at all
There’s something in the back of my mind
In the back of my mind
Always in the back of my mind
And the front of my mind too
I’ve got half a mind
I’ve got half a mind
I’ve got half a mind
To just pay for the lobotomy
And tell ’em get rid of the bad times
And get rid of the good times too
I’ve got no more thinking to do
They may say that our love
Was only half real
But that’s only half true
03:22 BOW DOWN
I was a sailor
I was a sailor, and now I’m a boat
I was a car
I was a car, and now I’m the road
And I was kneeling on the turnpike
With an angel down my throat
She said “You don’t know what it’s like
To bow down, down, down to Maria’s dead bones”
I was in love
I was in love, and now I’m in hell
With Maria’s bones talking to myself
You don’t know what it’s like
She said, “He with least money has the most to sell, sell, sell”
And she said, “I’ve met angels so deep undercover
That they’d sit on Solomon’s throne
And you don’t know what it’s like
You don’t know what it’s like
You don’t know what it’s like
To bow down down down down to Maria’s bones”

All people
All people must smile
In times of war
General Smith told me
I would never smile again
He said that I would never smile again
But not to worry
For all people, stop smiling
Once they get what they’ve been begging for
All people
In times of war
Must go down to the circus
General Adams told me
“Son, you were born to die scared”
So he said, “One day you will die scared
But not to worry
For all people must die scared or else die nervous”
All people
All people must go dancing
Out on the dancing floors
There were hundred horses dancing
Maybe 124
All the horses must go dancing
There is only dance music in times of war
A one hundred horses
Danced up to me so freely
But we have danced for too long
We have danced for far too long
And now I must change completely
All people
