Σαν σήμερα, 16 Μαΐου 1930 γεννήθηκε στη Βιέννη ο Friedrich Gulda, ένας από τους μεγάλους πιανίστες 20ου αιώνα. Ξεκινώντας ως κλασικό “παιδί θαύμα” από το κόσμο της κλασικής, ανέπτυξε από τα ’50s ένα ενδιαφέρον για τον κόσμο της jazz και, αργότερα, για κείνον της ποπ – οι συνεργασίες του περιλαμβάνουν μουσικούς όπως οι Chick Corea, Joe Zawinul, Herbie Hancock ενώ ανάμεσα στις ποπίζουσες συνθέσεις του περιλαμβάνονται οι Παραλλαγές πάνω στο “Light My Fire” των Doors. Όλα αυτά φυσικά του χάρισαν τον τίτλο του “αμφιλεγόμενου”, με πολλούς εχθρούς ανάμεσα στους ακαδημαϊούς κύκλους.

On this date, May 16, 1930, Friedrich Gulda, one of the great pianists of the 20th century, was born in Vienna. Having started as a typical “wonder kid” in the world of classical music, he developed from the ’50s an interest in the world of jazz and, later, for pop – his collaborations include musicians such as Chick Corea, Joe Zawinul, Herbie Hancock while among his pop-up compositions are included variations on Doors’ “Light My Fire.” All of this gave him the title of “controversial”, with many enemies among academic circles.
