FREDERICK DELIUS [1862 – 1934] : A SONG OF SUMMER

Hearing again the excellent symphonic poem by the British impressionist composer, I think that the moments of true calm are perhaps the most intense in a person’s life.

This is glorious music, full of Delius’s beautiful images of summer. One of my favourite pieces. I remember watching the Ken Russell film Song of Summer in the late 60s. I’d love to see it again. Due to illness, he was going blind and had paralysis, he employed Eric Fenby as his amanuensis. Without Fenby this wonderful tone poem would not have survived as Delius had lost the original score. Thank you for posting this! 🙋‍♂️

“How sweet it is!” – Jackie Gleason
    I mean it, too!
At risk of sounding like a bit of a goofo, Delius makes me delirious!
    Thank you for this!

Not “goofo” at all. I empathize! Thank you Resa.
