FRANZ SCHUBERT : AVE MARIA [BARBARA BONNEY]

One of the most touching interpretations I’ve heard of the
Schubert’s lied is this, by the American soprano Barbara Bonney. Geoffrey Parsons is accompanying her on the piano.
Franz Schubert, one of the greatest composers of all time, was born on this date, January 31st, 1797, in Vienna.

I adore this song! You said “Schubert’s lied”. Is that what this is, a lied?
    Stunning performance! Thank you!

Yes. Lieder [plural of “lied”, a German term] were songs written basically by composers of the romantic era [19th – early 20th century] setting poetry into music. The song is accompanied by a piano. Schubert was the king of lied, but each and every one of the composers of the period has his own share. I have numerous recordings, basically by sopranos and tenors which cover a great amount of the entire material. Thank you for your warm interest!
