Δίπλα στον μείζονα, της ζωγραφικής, υπάρχει ο ελάσσων, όχι όμως ευκαταφρόνητος El Greco, εκείνος της μουσικής : ο Κρητικής καταγωγής επίσης Φραγκίσκος Λεονταρίτης.
Γεννημένος στον βενετοκρατούμενο Χάνδακα στις αρχές του 16ου αι. [εποχή καλλιτεχνικών …ζυμώσεων ελληνο-βυζαντινών και αναγεννησιακών στοιχείων] θα ταξιδέψει πρώτη φορά στην Ιταλία [Ρώμη] ως έφηβος για μουσικές σπουδές. Θα επιστρέψει οριστικά εκεί [Βενετία] τριαντάρης πλέον, για να ξεκινήσει μεγάλη μουσική καριέρα, η οποία θα συνεχιστεί στη Γερμανία [Μόναχο].

Next to the major El Greco, the painter, there is a minor in comparison, but not insignificant artist by the same nickname : the Cretan composer Franghiskos Leontaritis. Born in Hadakas, a city under Venetian occupation in the early 16th century, in an era characterized by the mix of Greek-Byzantine and Renaissance elements, he ‘d travel for the first time to Italy [Rome] as a teenager for musical studies. He would return there [Venice] in his ‘30s to start a great musical career, which would continue in Munich, Germany.
We hear two of his religious compositions, performed by the ensemble Polyphonia, conducted by Nikos Kotrokois.
