We return to the April born musicians club, with the talented Dave Swarbrick, violinist and composer, best known for his participation in the historic folk-rock band Fairport Convention. Swarbrick is considered the greatest folk violinist of his generation [among other things, he was the first of this scene to use an electric violin] and one of the central figures of the folk revival in Great Britain.
We hear him as a singer also, on a composition of his own : “Rosie”, from Fairport Live Convention [1975]
I know Rosie
You’re living in a world you didn’t make
And I know it’s hard feeling happy
When the things you want aren’t even there to take
Come on Rosie, rosin up the bow
For the more I learn it’s the less I seem to know
Lie down cozy and let’s learn to take things slow
For the more I learn it’s the less I seem to know
Of my Rosie
Come on, my Rosie, rosin up the bow
Throw away your uniform
Now’s the time to take things by the hand
Come on in and take your coat off
Settle down and listen to the band
And ain’t that grand, Rosie
Come on Rosie, rosin up the bow
For the more I learn it’s the less I seem to know
Lie down cozy and let’s learn to take things slow
For the more I learn it’s the less I seem to know
Of my Rosie
Come on, my Rosie, rosin up the bow
Come on, my Rosie, rosin up the bow
Come on, my Rosie, rosin up the bow
Come on, my Rosie, rosin up the bow
Come on, my Rosie, rosin up the bow

This is fab!
Is this the band Sandy Denny sang with?
Yes, this is the only song sung by Swarbrick, its composer. Most of Fairport’s original songs [there were also traditional ones] were written by the great Richard Thompson who’d left the band by the time of this album’s recording.
Thank you Resa!
Interesting, thank you!
I should try drawing to Sandy’s singing. Her voice is inspirational.
Sandy Denny is my favorite woman singer of all time.
Try these two songs:
