EARTH OPERA : THE AMERICAN EAGLE TRAGEDY (1969)

Η πρόταση του stcigar αφορά στο (περίπου) ομώνυμο κομμάτι του The Great American Eagle Tragedy, δεύτερου και τελευταίου τους άλμπουμ (1969). Πρόκειται μια από τις σπαρακτικότερες αντιπολεμικές κραυγές που έχουν ποτέ ακουστεί. 🔴 🔴 Another one of the hidden treasures of the ’60s, is the second album by the short-lived cult psychedelic band Earth Opera, once again from Boston, Massachusetts. stcigar’s proposal refers to the (almost) title track of The Great American Eagle Tragedy, their second and final album (1969). This is one of the most heart-wrenching anti-war cries ever heard.

And call out the border guard
The kingdom is crumbling
The king is in the counting house
Laughing and stumbling
His armies are extended
Way beyond the shore
As he sends our lovely boys to die
In a foreign jungle war
The queen is in the garden
Moaning and weeping
She spied the executioner’s face
While he lay sleeping
The king’s own judge and jester
Leap together from the tower
Lie still as fallen statues
In the cultivated bower
And call out the border guard
The kingdom is crumbling
The king is in the counting house
Laughing and stumbling
His armies are extended
Way beyond the shore
As he sends our lovely boys to die
In a foreign jungle war
The orchestra assembles
And tries in vain to tune
While outside in the stable yard
The hounds are howling at the moon
A blind man in the far off jungle
His bamboo hut in flames
Sits and whispers to his flute
All the unremembered names
And call out the border guard
The kingdom is crumbling
The king is in the counting house
Laughing and stumbling
His armies are extended
Way beyond the shore
As he sends our lovely boys to die
In a foreign jungle warThe king is in the counting house
Laughing and stumbling
His armies are extended
Way beyond the shore
As he sends our lovely boys to die
In a foreign jungle war
The scarlet-cloaked and white-horsed huntsmen
Ride upon the meadow green
His silver arrows scar the sky
And I can hear the eagles scream
The peasants watch in dumbstruck wonder
The gay procession pass them by
The victory silence is consuming me
And we’ve killed at last the eagle’s cry
And call out the border guards
The kingdom is crumbling
The king is in the counting house
Laughing and stumbling
His armies are extended
Way beyond the shore
As he sends our lovely boys to die
As we send our lovely boys to die
As you send our lovely boys to die
In a foreign jungle war
Oh, people, I can’t stand it anymore
I, I, I, I, I can’t stand it anymore
I can’t stand it, stand it
Hold on
Hold on
Hold on
Hold on
Hold on
Where is thy face?
Fire, fire, fire, fire, fire, fire, fire, fire, fire, fire, fire
Fire, fire, fire, fire, fire, fire, fire, fire, fire, fire, fire, fire
Oh, no
Oh, no
Oh, no
Stop the war
Stop the war
Stop the war
