Η απροσδόκητη εμπορική επιτυχία του σουηδικού jazz piano trio E.S.T. (Esbjörn Svensson Trio) στη μεγαλύτερη διάρκεια των ‘90s και των ‘00s) υπήρξε η αιτία για την αναβίωση της ευρωπαϊκής σκηνής της jazz, με έμφαση σ’ εκείνην των βόρειων χωρών.
Ένας λόγος για την επιτυχία τους ήταν το νεανικό appeal (=πρόσβαση στο mainstream ακροατήριο) και η συμπερίληψη σε μια ευρεία γκάμα επιρροών, στοιχείων της ποπ του techno. Ένας άλλος λόγος, ο κυριότερος ήταν η συνθετική / πιανιστική μαεστρία του ιδρυτή του τρίο.
Ο Esbjorn Svensson θα χανόταν με τραγικό τρόπο το 2008 κάνοντας scuba diving. Ήταν 44 ετών, γενημένος τον Απρίλιο του 1964. Δίπλα στον Prokofiev, θα έχουμε ένα παράλληλο αφιέρωμα σ’ αυτόν και τη μπάντα του.

The unexpected commercial success that Swedish jazz piano trio E.S.T. (Esbjörn Svensson Trio) had during most of the ’90s and ’00s, was the reason for the revival of the European jazz scene, with emphasis on that of the Nordic countries.
One reason for their success was the youthful appeal (=access to mainstream audience) and the inclusion of elements of pop and techno in a wide range of influences. Another reason, the main one, was the compositional / piano mastery of the trio’s founder.
Esbjorn Svensson would tragically perish in 2008 while scuba diving. He was 44 years old, born in April 1964.
