Ο Domenico Scarlatti [1685-1757] είναι μια ακόμα από τις “βιβλικές” φυσιογνωμίες της εποχής του μπαρόκ – γεννημένος αυτό το μήνα, την ίδια χρονιά με τους Bach και Handel [!]. Εργάσθηκε σε πολλά διαφορετικά είδη μουσικής, κοσμικής και εκκλησιαστικής όπως και ο [όχι λιγότερο σημαντικός κατ’ εμέ] πατέρας του, Alessandro.
Από το σύνολο του έργου του DS ξεχωρίζουν οι εκπληκτικές από κάθε άποψη 555 σονάτες του για keyboard. Οχι τυχαία ίσως, οι περισσότερες από αυτές εκδόθηκαν μετά θάνατον : η επιρροή του μπαρόκ συνθέτη στην ανάπτυξη του κλασικού στιλ είναι δεδομένη, καθώς η μουσική του “κοιτάζει” κατευθείαν στο τέλος του 18ου και στον 19ο αιώνα.
Ο Domenico Scarlatti είναι ο τιμώμενος συνθέτης μας γι’ αυτό το μήνα.

Domenico Scarlatti [1685-1757] is another “biblical” figure of the Baroque era – born on this month, same year Bach and Handel did [!]. He worked in many different genres of music, secular and sacred, like his father [no less important to me], Alessandro.
From the total of DS’s work, his astonishing 555 sonatas for keyboard stand out in every respect. Perhaps not coincidentally, most of them were published posthumously : the influence of the Baroque composer on the development of the classical style is undisputed, as his music “looks” directly at the end of the 18th and the 19th century.
