Ένα δείγμα του έξοχου άλμπουμ Extensions που ο Dave Holland κυκλοφόρησε με το κουαρτέτο του των late ’80s : Steve Coleman (άλτο σαξόφωνο) Kevin Eubanks (κιθάρα), Marvin “Smithy” Smith (ντραμς). Πρόκειται για την πρώτη εμφάνιση του Eubanks με τον θρυλικό μπασίστα – συνθέτη. Όσο για τον Steve Coleman, είναι η Νο 1 αδυναμία μου από το χώρο jazz, μιλώντας για τις 4 τελευταίες δεκαετίες τουλάχιστον – αξίζει να ψάξει κανείς τη δουλειά του, σόλο, με τους Five Elements, με μέλη των M-Base (της κολεκτίβας που ίδρυσε στα ‘80s με νεαρούς τότε μουσικούς όπως η Cassandra Wilson, ο Kevin Eubanks και ο Greg Osby) κλπ.
Μοναδικό πρόβλημα που έχω με το ‘The Oracle’ : η μικρή διάρκειά του.

A token of the excellent album Extensions which Dave Holland released with his late ’80s quartet : Steve Coleman (alto sax) Kevin Eubanks (guitar), Marvin “Smithy” Smith (drums). This is Eubanks’ first appearance with the legendary bassist-songwriter. As for Steve Coleman, he’s my #1 favorite from the jazz world, speaking for the last 4 decades at least – it’s worth looking up his work, solo, with the Five Elements, with members of M-Base (the collective he founded in the 80s with then-young musicians like Cassandra Wilson, Kevin Eubanks and Greg Osby), etc.
Only problem I have with ‘The Oracle’ : its short duration.
