One of Carole King‘s numerous songs known by other artists. She wrote it with the lyricist Gerry Goffin – her husband at the time, and it was first recorded by the Monkeys in 1967. We hear it here from Carole King herself, born on this date, February 9, 1942.

She is a powerhouse song writer! I originally knew her from her Tapestry album, then over the years learned about the many hits she wrote for other artists.
I didn’t know she wrote this song, but I have heard the Monkees version.
Meh… about most of the Monkees music, but I do like “Sleepy Jean”.
However, I’ve been a fan of Mike Nesmith since “Different Drum”. I also like “Sweet Young Thing”, which was on the Monkees album.
I just looked it up, and turns out he wrote it with Carole King & Gerry Goffin.
It was an amazing moment when I discovered that one of my favorite pop songs, “The Locomotion”, was written by them two. Prolific indeed! Thanks Resa.
