Αντίθετα απ’ τον Schumann, ο Ludwig Van δεν είχε σκοπό να συσχετίσει το έργο του με φαντάσματα. Ο υπότιλος δόθηκε στο Πιάνο Τρίο σε Ρε από τον διάσημο μαθητή του, Carl Czerny. Ο λόγος, ότι το δεύτερο μέρος, Largo Assai [αυτό που ακούμε], του έφερνε στο νου “το φάντασμα του πατέρα του Άμλετ”.
Άβυσσος η ψυχή του ανθρώπου – εν πάση περιπτώσει, ο υπότιτλος παρέμεινε.

Unlike Schumann, Ludwig Van had no intention of relating his work to ghosts. The subtitle was given to Piano Trio in D by his famous student Carl Czerny. The reason : the second part, Largo Assai [the one we hear], brought to his mind “the ghost of Hamlet’s father”.
There’s nowt so queer as folk – in any case, the subtitle has remained.
