Ο Αλφόνσος ο 10ος, ο “Σοφός” (1221-1284) υπήρξε βασιλιάς της Καστίλης, του Λεόν και της Γαλικίας. Το προσωνύμιό του οφείλεται στα ποικίλα επιστημονικά ενδιαφέροντα που ανέπτυξε, και στην φροντίδα που έδειξε για τον πολιτισμό και τις τέχνες – στην αυλή του σύχναζε ένας μεγάλος αριθμός καλλιτεχνών και επιστημόνων.
Ανάμεσα στο πλήθος των επιτευγμάτων του φωτισμένου ηγεμόνα είναι η μνημειώδης συλλογή 400 περίπου τραγουδιών – ύμνων στην Παναγία, πολλά από τα οποία είχε συνθέσει ο ίδιος. Ακούμε ένα από τα Cantigas De Santa Maria – αποδίδει το Ensemble Unicorn : Por Nos De Dulta Tirar

Alfonso X, the “Wise” (1221–1284) was King of Castile, León and Galicia. His nickname is due to the diverse scientific interests he developed, and the care he showed for culture and the arts – his court was frequented by a large number of artists and scientists.
Among the multitude of achievements of the enlightened ruler is the monumental collection of some 400 songs – hymns to the Virgin Mary, many of which he had composed himself. We hear one of the Cantigas De Santa Maria – performed by Ensemble Unicorn : Por Nos De Dulta Tirar
