Ακούμε την πρώτη του επιτυχία στα 1961, “Don’t Throw Your Love On Me So Strong”. Στη συνέχεια μια σπουδαία live εκτέλεση του “As The Years Go Passing By” – ντουέτο με τον Rory Gallagher, από το άλμπουμ Blues Live του 1977. Kαι, τέλος, το “Born Under A Bad Sign”, τραγούδι-σήμα κατατεθέν του, από το ομώνυμο άλμπουμ του 1967 (σύνθεση των Booker T. Jones, William Bell).
Albert Nelson from Indianola, Mississippi better known as Albert King, was one of the blues’ most important electric guitar players, a major influence for many of his peers, from Albert Collins, Otis Rush to Jimi Hendrix, Mike Bloomfield, Mick Taylor and Stevie Ray Vaughan.
We ‘re listening to his first ever hit “Don’t Throw Your Love On Me So Strong” of 1961. After this, a riveting live version of “As The Years Go Passing By” – a duet with Rory Gallagher from the 1977 album Blues Live. And, finally, “Born Under A Bad Sign”, his trademark song from the eponymous album of 1967 (written by Booker T. Jones, William Bell).
DON’T THROW YOUR LOVE ON ME SO STRONG (00:00)
Hey baby,
Don’t throw your love on me so strong.
Hey baby,
Don’t throw your love on me so strong.
Yeah,
Your love is like a faucet,
You can turn it off and on.
Hey baby,
I like
What you been puttin’ down.
Hey baby,
I like
What you been puttin’ down.
Oh, but you can search
The whole world over
And no love like yours
Can be found.
Well, someday baby,
Baby when you change your mind.
Well, someday baby,
Baby when you change your mind.
You can search
The whole world over
For me
And I’ll be hard to find.
AS THE YEARS GO PASSING BY (02:57)
Ah the blues
The ball and chain that is ’round every English musician’s leg
In fact every musician’s leg
Tryin’ to kick it off baby?
No no.
You’ll just never do it
And these are the blues of time
And the blues of a woman
And a man thinkin’ of her
As time goes by
There is nothin’ I can do
If you leave me here to cry
There is nothin’ I can do
If you leave me here to cry
You know my love will follow you baby
Mmm until the day I die
I’ve given you all I own;
That is one thing you cannot deny
Oh I’ve given you all I own;
Baby that is one thing you cannot deny
And my love will follow you baby
Yeah
Till the day this man dies.
I’ve got failure all around me
No matter how hard I try.
I’ve got failure
It’s all around me
No matter how hard I
Try try
You know my ghost will haunt you baby
Until the day you stop down and die
Well you better get up
Right now right now
Well
You think that you have left me behind
And that with your other man you’re safe
And you’re away from me baby but uh
One o’ these days you’re gonna break down and cry
Because there is no escape from this man
Because this man’s love is so strong
He’s gonna haunt you
You know my love will follow you
Mmm until the day I die
There is just one thing I want to tell you before I go
I’m gonna leave it
I’m gonna leave it
Leave it up to you
So long
baby bye-bye
Hey I’m gonna leave it up to you baby
So long
baby bye-bye
Well you know my love will follow you
Mmm ’til the day I die
Till the day I die
BORN UNDER A BAD SIGN (11:56)
Born under a bad sign
Been down since I begin to crawl
If it wasn’t for bad luck
You know I wouldn’t have no luck at all
Hard luck and trouble is my only friend
I’ve been on my own ever since I was ten
Born under a bad sign
Been down since I begin to crawl
If it wasn’t for bad luck
You know I wouldn’t have no luck at all
I can’t read, haven’t learned how to write
My whole life has been one big fight
Born under a bad sign
I been down since I begin to crawl
If it wasn’t for bad luck
I say I wouldn’t have no luck at all
I ain’t no lyin’
You know if it wasn’t for bad luck
I wouldn’t have no kinda luck
If it wasn’t for real bad luck
I wouldn’t have no luck at all
You know, wine and women is all I crave
A big-legged woman is gonna carry me to my grave
Born under a bad sign
I been down since I begin to crawl
If it wasn’t for bad luck
I tell I wouldn’t have no luck at all
Yeah, my bad luck boy
Been havin’ bad luck all of my days, yes
