Αρχής γενομένης με τους Σκύθες του Προκόφιεφ περνάμε σ’ ένα “βαρβαρικό” κομμάτι των Emerson, Lake & Palmer. Οι εν λόγω, με τα όποια προτερήματα ελαττώματά τους, αποτελούσαν την πιο χαρακτηριστική διάψευση των θεωριών που αναπτύχθηκαν από επφανείς ηλίθιους των late ’70s για το πόσο “βαρετό” και “στερούμενο ενέργειας” ήταν το progressive rock (έπρεπε να εμφανιστεί το …πανκ για να χορτάσει ο ακροατής ενέργεια.). Το ‘The Barbarian’ από το ομώνυμο δισκογραφικό ντεμπούτο τους δίνει μια καλή ιδέα αυτού, όχι απλώς με τον τίτλο του. 🟡 🟡 Starting with Prokofiev’s Scythian Suite, we move on to a “barbaric” piece by Emerson, Lake & Palmer. The latter, with whatever strengths and weaknesses they had, constituted the most characteristic refutation of the theories developed by prominent idiots of the late ’70s claiming how “boring” and “devoid of energy” progressive rock was (it apparently took the arrival of …punk for the listener to finally get their fill of energy). ‘The Barbarian’ from their self-titled debut album gives a very good idea of this — and not just because of its title.
