Ξεκινώντας από τη νεανική περίοδο των Nucleus και Soft Machine στα ‘70s, φτάνοντας στο διάσημο cross-over project Adiemus των ‘90s (συνδυασμός στοιχείων κλασικής, έθνικ και μίνιμαλ, σε ένα στιλ προσωπικό και …διόλου του δικού μου γούστου) και συνεχίζοντας στο πεδίο της “καθαρά θρησκευτικής μουσικής” η πορεία του Karl Jenkins υπήρξε ένδοξη, γεμάτη διακρίσεις και χρυσούς / πλατινένιους δίσκους. Ένα από τα όντως αξιόλογα έργα του είναι αυτό εδώ : Το ‘The Armed Man : A Mass For Peace’, γράφτηκε το 1999, μετά από παραγγελία του Royal Armouries Museum για τους εορτασμούς του millennium και είναι αφιερωμένη από το συνθέτη στα θύματα της κρίσης του Κοσόβου. Ένα χρόνο αργότερα θα κυκλοφορούσε σε άλμπουμ, από το οποίο και ακούμε 3 αποσπάσματα : ‘Angry Flames’, ‘Torches’, ‘Angus Dei’. 🔴 🔴 Starting from his youthful period with Nucleus and Soft Machine in the ’70s and reaching the series of his famous cross-over project Adiemus in the ’90s (a combination of classical, ethnic, and minimal elements in a personal style that is… not at all to my taste) and continuing in the field of “pure sacred music”, Karl Jenkins’ career has been glorious, full of distinctions and gold/platinum discs. One of his truly noteworthy works is this one : The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace, composed in 1999 on commission from the Royal Armouries Museum for the millennium celebrations and dedicated by the composer to the victims of the Kosovo crisis. One year later it was released on album from which we hear three excerpts: ‘Angry Flames’, ‘Torches’, and ‘Agnus Dei’.
