BUFFALO SPRINGFIELD / CHER / MIRIAM MAKEBA : FOR WHAT IT’S WORTH

Το all-time “anti-war” classic του Stephen Stills σε τρεις βερσιόν, την original των Buffalo Springfield (1966), και μαζί εκείνες της Cher (’69) και της Miriam Makeba (’70).
🟡 🟡 Stephen Stills’ all-time “anti-war” classic in three versions: the original by
Buffalo Springfield (1966), and with it the covers by Cher (1969) and Miriam Makeba (1970). The song’s actual subject was police violence during the protests / incidents on the Sunset Strip in LA in the year it was recorded. But its misinterpreted anti-war dimension ultimately prevailed… by customary right.

There’s something happening here
What it is ain’t exactly clear
There’s a man with a gun over there
A-telling me I got to beware
I think it’s time we stop
Children, what’s that sound?
Everybody look what’s going down
There’s battle lines being drawn
Nobody’s right if everybody’s wrong
Young people speaking their minds
Are getting so much resistance from behind
Time we stop
Hey, what’s that sound?
Everybody look what’s going down
What a field-day for the heat
A thousand people in the street
Singing songs and a-carrying signs
Mostly say hooray for our side
It’s time we stop
Hey, what’s that sound?
Everybody look what’s going down
Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you’re always afraid
Step out of line, the man come and take you away
We better stop
Hey, what’s that sound?
Everybody look what’s going down
We better stop
Hey, what’s that sound?
Everybody look what’s going down
We better stop now
What’s that sound?
Everybody look what’s going down
We better stop
Children, what’s that sound?
Everybody look what’s going down
