Ο λόγος που το Πεδίον του Άρεως λέγεται Πεδίον του Άρεως (επίσημα από το 1902) είναι ότι κατά τον 19ο αι., ξεκινώντας από την οθωνική περίοδο εκτελούνταν εκεί στρατιωτικές ασκήσεις της Φρουράς Αθηνών. Η ονομασία παραπέμπει στο Campus Martius της Αρχαίας Ρώμης, επίσης πεδίο ασκήσεων για τους λεγεωνάριους, όπως και αρματοδρομιών, ιπποδρομιών κλπ. Το σημερινό όνομα της περιοχής της Ρώμης, Campo Di Marte, δίνει τον τίτλο του δεόντως καταιγιστικού techno track που ακούμε – συνεργασία των Ιταλών Dj-producers Marco Faraone & Hertz Collision.
