Δεν παρακολουθώ στενά τη ροκ σκηνή αυτή την περίοδο, υπάρχουν ωστόσο κάποια νέα γκρουπ που μου κινούν έντονα το ενδιαφέρον. Όπως οι Geese από το Brooklyn, μια παράξενη και γοητευτική διασταύρωση Velvet U και Television με στοιχεία ποικίλων προελεύσεων, από Radiohead μέχρι Tom Waits (η φωνή του singer-songwriter, κιμπορντίστα και κιθαρίστα Cameron Winter μεταφέρει τον απόηχο του Tom Verlaine, με ό,τι αυτό συνεπάγεται). Αυτά, μαζί με μια απαστράπτουσα και προσωπική τραγουδοποιία, δείγματα της οποίας ακούμε εδώ, τρία τον αριθμό, από το πρόσφατα κυκλοφορημένο άλμπουμ τους Getting Killed. 📀 📀 I’m not closely following the rock scene these days, but there are some new bands that pique my interest. Like Geese from Brooklyn, a strange and captivating blend of Velvet Underground and Television with elements from various directions, from Radiohead to Tom Waits (the voice of singer-songwriter, keyboardist and guitarist Cameron Winter carries an echo of Tom Verlaine, with all that implies). These, along with their sparkling and personal songwriting, samples of which we hear here—three in number—from their recently released album Getting Killed.

Wow, that was great. I wasn’t expecting what I heard. I quite like the singer.
I didn’t expect it either, it was a pleasant surprise when I first heard them. I like the singer (main songwriter) very much! As a matter of fact, we grew up on the same stuff musically : Lou Reed and Tom Verlaine! Thank you Resa!

Αν θες βάλε κάποια στιγμή ένα obscure κομματάκι από ένα obscure γκρουπάκι που κυκλοφόρησε τον μοναδικό του δίσκο σε περιορισμένη έκδοση μόνο στην πατρίδα του και στην Ελλάδα. Εννοείται ότι σε καμία εκ των δύο δεν έκανε την παραμικρή επιτυχία:

Εγώ πάντως …τους ήξερα! 🤪 Θυμάμαι να ακούω το τραγούδι σε κάποιο είδος “Πήγασου” / “Εναλλάξ” της εποχής και να ρωτάω τον Dj – μου είχε μείνει και το όνομα του γκρουπ. Γ@μώ τα τραγούδια by the way.
Ο κυρίως δίσκος τους επίσης δεν έχει ούτε μισό κομμάτι απλά “καλό”. Στοιχειωμένος και κατά την περιορισμένη εμπειρία μου singular “new old stock” αμερικάνικος ήχος.
Οι παρενέργειες του να είσαι περιστασιακός ακροατής “της ροκ” (ζήτημα αν αγόρασα 10 ροκ δίσκους από τα mid μέχρι τα late ’80s – είχα βαρεθεί εντελώς το κόλπο) είναι ότι χάνεις πολλά και διάφορα. But… what can you do. Ας όψονται οι Brahms & Handel. 😎
Εγώ είχα βρει τότε στην Καρδίτσα ένα εκ των κορυφαίων δισκάδικων.. παγκοσμίως. Ιδιοκτήτης της τρύπας ήταν ένας τύπος που θύμιζε παροπλισμένο σακάτη πειρατή και που έπαιζε μονίμως χαρτιά στο απέναντι καφενείο αφήνοντας το εμπόρευμά του στη διακριτική μου ευχέρεια. Εννοείται ότι ποτέ δεν του έκλεψα τίποτε. Δεν είχα εξάλλου πικάπ και τον αγγάρευα να μου γράψει τους απίστευτους δίσκους που έβρισκε god knows where σε κασέτες. Ποτέ δεν είχα δει επίσης άλλο πελάτη στο μαγαζί εκτός από μένα.
Ο αντίστοιχος για μένα (μιλάμε για προεφηβική & εφηβική ηλικία) ήταν ένας στη Θεμιστοκλέους στα Εξάρχεια, απ’ τον οποίο παραγγέλαμε δίσκους εκ του εξωτερικού. Εκεί είχα πρωτομιλήσει σε ανύποπτη φάση με το …Ζήλο (πριν την κανονική μας γνωριμία λόγω του γκρουπ, πολύ αργότερα) με αφορμή την έκπληξη που του προκάλεσε κάτι απ’ τον κατάλογο των παραγγελιών. “Μπα“, λέει, “ποιος παραγγέλει Van Der Graaf Generator εδωπέρα;” “Εγώ” πετάγομαι σαν ηλίθιος, με ένα είδος μαθητικής ζέσης (παραλίγο να φωνάξω “εγώ κύριε!“🤣). Επηκολούθησε συζήτησις – την οποίαν ενθυμούμαι με πάσαν λεπτομέρειαν.
Το Ζήλο τον είχα πετύχει το 1992-3 στα Γιάννενα όπου ήμουνα τότε φοιτητής. Έδινε μια ομιλία χωρίς μεγάλη συμμετοχή, την οποία φυσικά παρακολούθησα θέτοντάς του και σχετικές ερωτήσεις. Πρέπει να είχε πάρει αρκετά κιλά εκείνη την εποχή. Το μόνο που μου έμεινε είναι κάποιες παρατηρήσεις του για την ιδιαιτερότητα των Beatles. Οι pre-millennium γλωσσικές αναμνήσεις μου γεμίζουν δε γεμίζουν μια παράγραφο συνολικά for better or worse.
