PULP : MORE (2025)

Η νέα κυκλοφορία των Pulp είναι η πρώτη τους μετά το ‘We Love Life’ του 2001.

The new
Pulp release is their first since ‘We Love Life’ in 2001. Questions like “was the wait worth it?” sound like a joke, the kind only music journalists or radio DJs still throw around: I don’t know anyone who was eagerly awaiting ‘More’ from Jarvis Cocker, and I certainly wasn’t.
Thankfully so, because I’d rather be
disappointed. In any case, here are (the) three songs I liked from the album.

00:00 SPIKE ISLAND
Something stopped me
Dead in my tracks
I was heading for disaster
And then I turned back
I was wrestling with a coat-hanger
Can you guess who won?
The Universe shrugged
Shrugged then moved on
It’s a guess
No idea
It’s a feeling
Not a voice
In my head
Just a feeling
And by the way
Spike Island
Come alive
And by the way
This time I’ll get it right
Oh
Not a shaman or a showman
Ashamed that I was selling the rights
I took a breather
And decided not to ruin my life
I was conforming to a cosmic design
I was playing to type
Until I walked back to the Garden
Of Earthly Delights
I was born
To perform
It’s a calling
I exist
To do this
Shouting and pointing
And by the way
Spike Island
Come alive
And by the way
This time I’ll get it right
Oh
No-one will ever understand it
And no-one will ever have the last word
Because it’s not something you could ever say
So swivel
It’s a guess
No idea
It’s a feeling
Not a voice
In my head
Just a feeling
And by the way
Spike Island
Come alive
And by the way
This time I’ll get it right
Oh
And by the way
Spike Island
Come alive
And by the way
This time I’ll get it right
Oh

04:43 TINA
Tina
Saw her this morning on the train
She’s playing games
Sometimes she changes the colour of her hair
Or her skin
Does she still wear the T-shirt
With the horizontal stripes?
The one she wore
The night I almost spoke to her
Tina’s always attentive to my needs
We’re really good together
‘Cause we never meet
Tina
Yes. Tonight I have been thinking about
Tina
Tina
Do you remember walking past me in the snow?
Or on the escalator last Saturday
You were wearing rainbow gloves
With matching socks
What a display
Of everyday sexuality
Although we’ve never spoken
Or exchanged e-mails
We got a strong connection
It just can’t fail
Tina
Tina
Yes. Tonight I have been thinking about
Scenes from a marriage that never took place
Although I did once buy a ring
Yeah
Tina
There’s tantalising and teasing
And I forgot what I was going to say to you
Oh, oh
Oh Tina
What are you like?
Tina
There is no alternative
But I got to live (You know)
And I ain’t living on my own, oh no
All those places we never met
Near misses
Your lipstick on my coffee cup
Screwing in a charity shop
On top of black bin bags
Full of donations
The smell of digestive biscuits in the air
Welcome back to Dreamland
We all know your name
T-I-N-A, still reads her book on the train
Tina
Tina
Tina
Well, tonight I have been thinking about
Tina

08:17 A SUNSET
I scanned the menu options
I did not have a choice
I’d like to teach the world to sing
But I do not have a voice
So I bought myself a ticket
To the happening of the year
The sky lit up with colours
The crowd let out a cheer
It’s just a sunset
Someone said
Something that happens every day
Yes, it’s a sunset
Someone said
But now they’ve found a way to make it pay
I like to look at pretty things
I like to feast my eyes
I went to see the Northern Lights
But they were pale and weak
And not as advertised
So now, I’m learning about money
And I’m learning about law
The first rule of economics?
Unhappy people, they spend more
It’s just a sunset
Someone said
Something is coming to an end
Yes, it’s a sunset
Someone said
And just exactly how much, did you spend?
Oh, I’d like to teach the world to sing
But I do not have a voice
And I’d like to buy the world some time
Some time and a choice
Yes, I’d like to teach the world to sing
But I, I do not have a voice
And I’d like to buy the world some time
Some time
Some time
And a choice
