B-52’s : MESOPOTAMIA (1982)

& ’53 Miles From Venus’ (07:50) από το δεύτερο LP τους, Wild Planet του 1980.

The label of “World’s greatest party band” that has accompanied the
B-52s’ wild journey from the start may have deprived them of some “artistic credentials” enjoyed by others less creative than them, something I suppose they’d find more or less irrelevant. As far as I’m concerned, they’re one of my favorite bands from the late ‘70s to mid-‘80s, and I don’t consider their music ideal for parties.
We’re listening to three songs from two albums:
‘Mesopotamia’ from the 1982 EP of the same name produced by David Byrne, ‘Quiche Lorraine’ (03:52) & ’53 Miles From Venus’ (07:50) from their second LP, Wild Planet, from 1980.

Turn your watch, turn your watch back
About a hundred thousand years
A hundred thousand years
I’ll meet you by the third pyramid
I’ll meet you by the third pyramid
Ah come on, that’s what I want
We’ll meet in Mesopotamia, oh oh oh
I ain’t no student
(Feel those vibrations) Of ancient culture
(I know a neat excavation)
Before I talk
I should read a book!
But there’s one thing that I do know
There’s a lot of ruins in Mesopotamia!
Six or eight thousand years ago
They laid down the law! (Ah ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!)
Six or eight thousand years ago
They laid down the law! (Ah ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!)
I’ll meet you by the third pyramid
I’ll meet you by the third pyramid
Ah come on, that’s what I want
We’ll meet in Mesopotamia, oh oh oh
Now I ain’t no student
(Feel those vibrations) Of ancient culture
(I know a neat excavation)
Before I talk
I should read a book
(Mesopotamia, that’s where I wanna go)
But there’s one thing that I do know
(Mesopotamia, that’s where I wanna go)
There’s a lot of ruins in Mesopotamia!
Six or eight thousand years ago
They laid down the law (Ah ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!)
Six or eight thousand years ago
They laid down the law (Ah ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!)
In Mesopotamia! (Ah ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!)
They laid down the law (Ah ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!)
In Mesopotamia! (Ah ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!)

The skies are charcoal gray
It’s a dreary downtown day
But
At the end of my forty-foot leash
Is my little friend
Quiche
Quiche La Poodle
Is her name
And having a good time on a crummy day is our game
Quiche
Quiche Lorraine
Quiche, Quiche Lorraine
Quiche, Quiche Lorraine
Everyday I take her out, yeah
She runs around and she shouts out and barks, yeah
‘Cause she’s a good doggie
She’s a sweet, sweet, sweet puppy
And I know she’ll stick by me, yeah
Oh no, here comes a Great Dane (Quiche, Quiche Lorraine)
Drivin’ down the lane (Quiche, Quiche Lorraine)
Quiche, Quiche, Quiche come back here (Quiche, Quiche Lorraine)
Don’t leave me (Quiche, Quiche Lorraine)
I’ll go insane (Quiche, Quiche Lorraine)
I’ll go insane (Quiche, Quiche Lorraine)
How do you like that?
Has anybody seen
A dog dyed dark green?
About two inches tall
With a strawberry blonde fall
Sunglasses and a bonnet
And designer jeans with appliques on it?
The dog that brought me so much joy
Left me wallowing in pain
Quiche Lorraine
I’ll show her!
Do you see the key in my hand?
I’m gonna throw it in the lake
Yea, you’ve been so rotten to me
You take the cake
I’m just gonna lock the door to your kennel
And just you try and come back to me
Yeah, you’ll see (Quiche, Quiche Lorraine)
You mangy mutt (Quiche, Quiche Lorraine)
(Quiche Quiche Lorraine) I’m talking about Quiche!
Quiche Lorraine
