With the avant-garde flag at half-mast, immersed in Hindu mysticism, Alice Coltrane recorded a series of albums for Warner Bros during the 1970s. It took some time for jazz aficionados to overcome their skepticism toward the “conventional” melodiousness of works like Transcendence (1977). We listen to a masterful piece from it, characteristic of the period, featuring the brilliant artist on the harp.
