ANNETTE PEACOCK : FREE THE MEMORY (2000)

This new excellent proposal of
stcigar “fits” with the intention I had, having started with Carla Bley, Steve Swallow, to expand on a circle of interconnected, top musicians – more in the coming days. For now we hear the composer, singer – songwriter – improviser Annette Peacock, electronic pioneer from the 60s, jazz and “art rock” musician, with an influence many times her fame (Bowie would have something to say about that), former wife of Paul Bley and Gary Peacock – on a track from ‘An Acrobat’s Heart’, recorded for ECM at the dawn of the new millennium.

Take the sum of your own tears
Multiply by unknown years
You’ve been so brave, unafraid
Underneath you bare the wounded child
Walking wounded can’t rewrite the story told they hold so tight
Play the part they must relive
Do not forget, do not forgive
We do all that we can do to survive what we’re put thru
Here is this cool, ruthless world
Too unsafe to show the wounded child
There’s no gain when we encore the painful past forever more
Nothing real for us to score
The love that’s lost, we can’t restore
Let is fall
Let is perish
Free for the memory we cherish
Here in this blind, careless world
Where our kind, create the wounded child
