Wonderful piece.
Thank you very much Tim!
Thought provoking music and, of course, title. I recently asked Google Gemini to comment on words that some groups “reclaim.” I can’t find the response but it gave me something like this – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reappropriation
I know you are well versed in social theory, and would like to hear your view in a nutshell. The fact that you are mixing the “n-word” with “white” complicates things, I think.
This is not an issue of reappropriation or reclamation.
“The White Negro” was the title of an essay by Norman Mailer in which he advocates for “hip” as a working philosophy in sub-worlds of American Life.
The album’s title has to do with this particular argument.
My view in a nut-shell is expressed on today’s post.
I’m glad I asked. I had assumed that the title was about *your* being disrespected, as I similarly assumed with the John Lennon song Woman is the N***** of the World—i.e. that woman were being disrespected. To be honest I don’t fully understand your argument but have at least narrowed it down. I didn’t know about Mailer’s piece and used Gemini to help, https://g.co/gemini/share/e629aac93991
Interesting…
Terrific!
Love the change.. I guess that’s into part 2. (around 3:40)
It’s brilliant and classic at the same time.
Thank you very much Resa! Yes, it’s into part 2 – “blue” becoming “critical”.
