The first performance we hear is by Fats Waller himself—co-composer of the song and one of the greatest jazz pianists (and organists) of all time. We then move to 1964 for Tony Bennett’s distinctive take with the Ralph Sharon Trio, before closing with a high-energy live version by the veterans of the World’s Greatest Jazz Band. The recording is from Manchester’s Free Trade Hall in 1971, with the saxophones of Bud Freeman and Bob Wilber—tenor and soprano, respectively—taking center stage.
