Η νεανική σύνθεση του Anton Webern αποτελεί άσκηση από τον καιρό της μαθητείας του στον Schoenberg. Δεν είναι γνωστή η αντίδραση του δασκάλου σ’ αυτήν. Το σίγουρα είναι αφενός ότι εκτιμούσε πολύ το ταλέντο του, και αφετέρου ότι παρότρυνε τον ίδιο και τους υπόλοιπους μαθητές του να αποτινάξουν τις Ρομαντικές επιρροές για το χατήρι μιας αντιστικτικής, ελεύθερης ατονικότητας. Εξ ίσου σίγουρο είναι ότι το έργο, που ο “21χρονος” δεν έκρινε άξιο παρουσίασης (πρώτη δημόσια εκτέλεση : 1962, 17 χρόνια μετά το θάνατο του), είναι ένα υστερο-ρομαντικό αριστούργημα. 🟡 🟡 The youthful composition by Anton Webern is an exercise from the period of his apprenticeship with Schoenberg. The teacher’s reaction to it is not known. What is certain, however, is that on one hand he greatly admired his pupil’s talent, and on the other, he urged Webern and his other students to cast off Romantic influences in favor of a contrapuntal, freely atonal style. It is equally certain that this work, which the 21-year old did not consider worthy of presentation (first public performance : 1962, seventeen years after his death), is a post-romantic masterpiece.
