I’m a huge fan of the original Star Trek. As happy as I am for how Star Trek has morphed over the years, it is the original series and movies that I love.

You’re right of course about the track! To me also this was the best Star Trek movie along with “The Search For Spock” – the scene of Spock recognizing Kirk (“Jim …your name is Jim”) had me in tears. 🥹🥲😃

For my mind, the first movie was always the best of the lot (though that’s a low bar for one or two of them). While very different to the series and other movies, it was, and still is, iconic. I think the special effects still stand up pretty well too. What I hadn’t thought about before though is just how much the theme tune to Star Trek: Next Generation borrows from this particular arrangement of the tune. I always thought of it as an independent arrangement of the original theme, but this track here you could easily tell me was a slowed down version of the sequel TV show!
