MIKHAIL GLINKA PODCAST : RUSSLAN AND LUDMILLA / A LIFE FOR THE TSAR / TRIO PATHETIQUE etc.

On this date, June 1, 1804, Mikhail Glinka, the “father of the Russian music school”, was born. His legacy would launch a long line of brilliant composers, most of whom are better known than him in our times. Glinka was essentially a kind of self-taught, brilliant amateur, who managed to form a personal style based rather on his hearings [especially the folk and traditional music of his country] than on his lacking academic education. He wrote operas, songs, chamber music, symphonic and piano works.

He may not be so much known himself, but he has his share of great moments. Above all he was the one who opened the door for all the Tchaikovskys, the Stravinskys and Rachmaninoffs. Thank you Resa!
