JEROME KERN : YESTERDAYS [JOHN LEWIS, CLIFFORD BROWN]

Two jazz greats, two rarely beautiful renditions of
Jerome Kern’s classic [photo]. First the piano player John Lewis, accompanied by Percy Heath, Connie Kay – bass, drums respectively. And then [06:24] trumpeter Clifford Brown, with strings.

…Always was, in terms of crowd attendance – not to mention the artists’ “income”! People supposedly famous because of their albums, spent their entire careers playing in front of 50-100 people.

That’s true. When I lived in Vancouver (in my 20’s) there was a jazz club that I can’t remember the name of. It held about 100 at tables. I heard lots of great jazz there, and some blues, too.
It was too, good to be true. It folded in 2 years.
