Gioacchino Rossini may be one of the biggest operatic brand names, but my personal preference among his works is Stabat Mater, a religious work from which we select the starting section, commemorating the day of his birth, February 29, 1792.

Opera, just starting to like it. I follow a young Soprano in the UK, Charlotte Hoather. I love her voice, and she has opened a new door for me. I still don’t care for a lot of the male voices. I had to work the coffee bar, eons ago, at a performance of Faust. I was in the lobby and endured the first half. Thank goodness I got to leave after everyone got their intermission coffee.

Well, Gounod [the composer of Faust] is not exactly the one I ‘d recommend for …starting a relation with opera. He can be such a bore so many times. But operas like the ones of Mozart [especially his most melodic one, Cozi Fan Tutte], Handel, Verdi, Bellini… are a totally different story. Thank you Resa!
