Love King Crimson, and Yes lesser so. (Owner of a Broken Heart is my fave, can’t help it)
So, it seems Phil Collins was essential to Genesis? MOR music…painfully embarrassing after their former glory.

There are two “Genesis”. The first one, up until 1979, has been the best example of what “progressive rock” is all about. To me, they are better than King Crimson, better than Yes, better than anyone… Superb compositional skills, superb musicianship and virtuosity, and a bunch of sublime albums.
And then there was Genesis ’80s and beyond, a shadow of the former band, MOR music oriented, following Phil Collins’ solo success. It is a sad story actually.
