Πράγματι. Γενικώς το χάος που επικρατούσε στην Ευρώπη τω καιρώ εκείνω, η ποικιλότητα των προσεγγίσεων και η διαρκής ρευστότητα των επιλογών καθιστούν τη σημερινή παρουσίαση της περιόδου, με τους αυστηρά καθορισμένους ρόλους “καλών”, “κακών”, “νικητών” και “νικημένων”, ένα ακόμα ανέκδοτο.

I agree 100% about the moderates.

An example is the New Mexico Supreme Court, the most liberal and socialist of all the states in the USA. Way worse that California, if you can believe it. They put a law on the ballet a few years ago that was carefully worded so the ballot initiative read like it would improve processing criminals in the court system, and boost our law enforcement. But when you looked into what the law would really do, it was an end run around the bail system, making it so many criminals didn’t have to post bail to get out of jail while waiting for trial, basically turning the criminals back on to the streets, where they simply disappeared, until they got caught again committing another crime. Basically a catch and release law. It also made it illegal for citizens and business owners to confront petty thieves on the street or in a business and hold them for the police. Basically, you either shoot and kill petty thieves if you catch them in the act and claim self defense, or standby as they clean out your business waiting for the police to arrive.

The moderates didn’t bother to look into what the law would really do, and taking it at the face value of the wording on the ballot, overwhelming voted Yes! I voted No. When the law went into effect and the moderates discovered the consequences of the law, they were up in arms about being deceived. Well. It was to late. They should have been up in arms about the law when it was put on the ballot.
