Politicians and the media are so ignorant of the contexts of science and the theories that make science credible, they end up discrediting the sciences with statements used to cut off any further discussion like “it’s based on science!” and “It’s a fact!” You will often hear politicians and reporters say “Do the math!” What math? We should ask. What they are talking about is not math in the least. It’s doing simple calculations. Similarly, “the facts” are misleading snippets of information used to manipulate people. To cut off further discussions and investigations into the policies and actions of the people in power, and those involved in nefarious activities. Unfortunately, there are too many people in the world who think simple calculations are math, and “the facts” are undeniable truths not to be argued with.

This is also the case with models. Models can be helpful in predicting how something “might” turn out when experiments cannot be applied to make repeatable, predictable outcomes. However, politicians and the media try to present the results of models as “the facts” that predict the future as long as the predicted outcomes fit with their politics and ambitions. The predictions from models that don’t fit their politics are said to be false outcomes. False prophets making ever more false proclamations in their unquenchable thirst for power.

Οι προβλέψεις των μοντέλων είναι κανονικά “η οδός προς την απώλεια”. Το next big thing θα είναι το Climate Change [ήδη ξεφυτρώνουν διάφοροι ειδικοί, εν μέσω “πύρινης λαίλαπας που κατακαίει τα πάντα”, για να διαφημίσουν βιομάζες και ανεμογεννήτριες] η θεωρία περί του οποίου βασίζεται κυρίως σε τέτοιες προβλέψεις. Θα πέσει πολύ γέλιο, γιατί κάποιοι θυμούνται όλες αυτές που έχουν γίνει δεκαετίες τώρα και το πόσο “επιβεβαιώθηκαν”.
